(October 29th, 1 am. In my room.)
- This is amazing!! We had the first snow of the season today, though it's still in the late October! It was freezing in the evening. I didn't expect it started snowing so early. I'm wondering if this is an usual event of the year around the late October in London.
- As of Sunday 26th, the summer time has ended. At first I was not aware of this fact because I don't have this time system in my country. So when I went shopping to the Oxford Street in the afternoon, I had a strange experience of seeing the time difference on between my watch and the digital clock on my mobile phone. At first, I thought that my watch had been running out of battery because it was keeping bad time when I looked at it. So I didn't care about it so much. And still I could know the exact time with my mobile phone. At the same time, I wondered if this was brought about by the so-called summer time. So when I came home, I looked it up on the Internet and I knew I had guessed right. In this way, I learned the reason for the time difference between the wrist and digital watch. So what I did first after that, was putting back an hour my G-Shock and the alarm clock which I bought recently. It was raining all day long on Sunday. And I think I didn't do anything at all except going shopping.
- On Monday 27th, I started doing radio gymnastic exercise, "Radio Taiso" in Japanese. Fortunately, I could find its video on Youtube, so I downloaded it. (http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=xS92XkVKM0Q) This gave me another fantastic idea; I began to look for the famous exercise video called "Billy's Boot Camp", and which I could easily find again on Youtube.(http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=sgGNBue6gXg&feature=related) So when I came home from the library at night, I immediately began working out with these programs on my laptop in my room. I sweated a lot after I finished these exercises. Thanks to this physical exhaustion, I could sleep quite well that night. But the next morning, I found that I suffered from muscle pains when I got up. Yet, I had done the radio exercise again before I went to the library.
- On Tuesday afternoon, I attended the informal lunch for the international postgraduate students belonging to the School of English and Humanities. When I got an email to let me know this event in a few weeks ago, I wouldn't participate in it at first because of my poor communication skills (even in Japanese as I wrote before). But this time, I thought I tried to improve it by getting up courage to attend it. I knew I had to practice communication in English even if I'm not good at it. The lunch went well. I could enjoy talking with several people including not only other students but also teachers and staffs. The most interesting person I met at that time was a woman from Hungary, because she is studying the influence of Japanese culture on Ezra Pound's works, and has been in Japan for two months. We could talk about Japan a lot. I thought I made a wise choice in coming to this lunch. Of course, sometimes I couldn't express myself well, but I wasn't so nervous as I expected.
